MaMHCA Continuing Education Workshop Proposal Guidelines

For Licensed Mental Health Counselors — Massachusetts

1. Introduction

Thank you for your interest in presenting a continuing education workshop for the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association (MaMHCA). These workshops help shape the professional development of LMHCs across the Commonwealth.

This document provides guidance, inspiration, and standards to help you prepare a successful proposal that meets MaMHCA criteria as well as regulatory requirements set by:

  • The Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions
  • The Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association (MaMHCA)
2. Why Present for MaMHCA?
  • Share your expertise with practicing clinicians
  • Influence the growth and competence of the mental health counseling profession

We encourage proposals that are innovative, evidence‑informed, and relatable to clinical practice.

3. Eligibility & Expectations

Who Can Present?

  • Hold a current active clinical license
  • Career in related clinical practice without a license, only if sponsored by an LMHC co-presenter
  • If the topic is atypical, demonstrate expertise through:
    • Master’s level credential appropriate for the topic
    • Additional certifications or trainings (included in CV)
    • Professional tenure in the content area
  • A clinical license with retired status

Presenter Responsibilities

  • Deliver content consistent with objectives
  • Provide materials/resources to MaMHCA for participants
  • Identify accessibility barriers
  • Manage time and engage learners
  • Maintain respectful and inclusive environments
  • Follow all MaMHCA and MA Board documentation requirements
4. Proposal Submission Requirements

Submit at least 90 days prior to the desired workshop month. Online submissions should include:

Presenter Information

  • Full name, credentials, license number
  • Contact information
  • Professional biography
  • CV or résumé (1–3 pages recommended)

Workshop Information

  • Title
  • Learning Objectives (3–5 measurable goals)
  • Workshop Summary (150–300 words)
  • Format (In-person, Online, Hybrid)
  • Duration (e.g., 1 hr, 3 hrs, 6 hrs)

Content & Delivery

  • Detailed syllabus, agenda, or session outline
  • Required resources or technology
  • Expected audience and prerequisites

Disclosure

  • Potential conflict of interest
  • Financial or commercial affiliations
  • Accessibility barriers
5. Content Standards & Learning Objectives

All proposals should include clear, measurable objectives that participants should achieve.

Examples of Strong Objectives

  • Identify three evidence-based strategies for trauma-informed practice
  • Demonstrate ethical documentation practices relevant to LMHC supervision
  • Compare cultural competence models and develop a diversity-informed intervention plan
6. Compliance with MaMHCA & MA Board Regulations
  • Align with Board continuing education standards
  • Provide measurable outcomes and CE hours
  • Free from commercial bias or product promotion
  • Within scope of LMHC practice
  • Include attendance documentation and evaluations
  • Use up-to-date resources supporting evidence-based practice

CE Credit Calculation: 1 hour = 50–60 minutes of instruction (excluding breaks). Participants receive a certificate including date, title, hours, and presenter name.

Example Summary

Title: Integrating Mindfulness into Clinical Practice

Summary: Explores mindfulness interventions for adult clients with research, exercises, and case discussion. Includes guided practice.

Objectives:

  • Explain three evidence-based mindfulness models
  • Practice guided mindfulness exercises
  • Design client session outline incorporating mindfulness tools

8. After Submission: What Happens Next
  • Review by MaMHCA CE Committee
  • Feedback or revisions may be requested
  • Notification within 10–14 business days
  • Approved workshops scheduled and promoted
  • Presenters responsible for attendance and evaluations
