Supporting Trans and Non-Binary Youth and their Families
Description: This workshop aligns with the Experienced Professionals/Specialists tracks call for presentations on LGBTQIA+ clients and families. Our panel will present from various perspectives how to be culturally responsive mental health counselors with transgender and nonbinary clients and their families. Specialty topics (for example topics around: race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, language, or other topic/population) (Panel presentations focusing on working with transgender and non-binary clients and their families)
Our Presenters [may include all of these people, or some substitutes]:
Elizabeth Barragato, LMHC is a MaMHCA member. She works as a generalist with trans and non-binary clients. She is also an Instructor and the Coordinator of the Holistic Specialization in Lesley University's Department of Counseling and Psychology and the faculty support for our student led Transgender Mental Health Initiative, whose members are co-presenters with me in this proposal.
Panel members:
Kim Armstrong is a student in Lesley University’s Graduate Department of Counseling and Psychology. As well as being a student in the field, they have published articles on Trans and Non-binary issues
Athena Edmonds is a student in Lesley University’s Graduate Department of Counseling and Psychology. Advocate for LGBTQ Youth, speaker, and writer. Her focus is advocacy in medical institutions to address LGBTQ healthcare disparities.
Kylie Burnham is a student in Lesley University’s Graduate Department of Counseling and Psychology. Kylie is also an adult learning expert specializing in experiential, online, and out-of-classroom environments, with a passion for DEIJ education and mental health/wellbeing. Kylie is a digital media specialist at Tufts University and current student in Lesley University's Graduate Department of Counseling and Psychology.
