Holistic Approach to Working With Trauma
Description:
Based on Janina Fisher’s work, our presenter will teach a mind-body approach to working with clients who have experienced trauma. She will review basic neurobiology of trauma and the impact of procedural learning as well as how to help clients utilize the window of tolerance. Acknowledging attachment structures, we will discuss how to support clients in recognizing when they are triggered, offering coping strategies to support grounding. With this background, we will engage in a brief role play utilizing body-based coping strategies with clients. We will discuss reframing dysregulated affect in terms of IFS parts, and working with toxic relational styles in counseling, with brief role play and processing of these modalities.
