Massachusetts Court materials identify specific eligibility, experience, training, insurance, and professional requirements for Category E clinicians.

You are a licensed mental health counselor in good standing.

Relevant post-licensure experience:
You meet the Court's experience requirements for Category E clinicians, including the required Massachusetts experience after licensure conducting clinical evaluations and/or providing therapy to family members involved in or subject to qualifying court proceedings.

Professional liability insurance:
You have professional liability coverage meeting the Court's required minimum.
✓
Criminal-history requirement:
You meet the Court's requirements concerning felony convictions.

Required education and training:
You have completed the educational and training requirements established by the Probate and Family Court.

Ongoing requirements:
You understand that continuing requirements and mandatory training apply to remain on the Category E appointment list.
Important:
Meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee appointment to a particular case. A Category E GAL must have the appropriate expertise for the issues involved, remain impartial, avoid conflicts of interest, and determine whether they can complete an appointment within the Court's required time frame.
