The Contemplative Counselor: Integrating Mindfulness & Psychotherapy in Clinical Practice

Virtual on ZOOM

What does sustained contemplative practice actually change about how we show up with clients? In this workshop, we'll explore how mindfulness rewires the neural correlates of therapeutic presence—not as a wellness add-on, but as a path to deeper attunement, clearer boundaries, and the capacity to hold relational complexity without collapsing. We'll examine the neuroscience, practice a brief contemplative exercise, and work through live case material showing how personal practice translates into measurable clinical presence. Leave with concrete, evidence-informed practices ready to integrate into your work.

Presenter: Sean Witty, MS, MTS

About our presenter:

Sean has graduated with an MS Mental Health Counseling (UMass Boston) and an MTS (Drew University). He has 20+ years experience teaching contemplative practice as a way to deepen therapeutic presence, attunement, and the capacity to sit with relational complexity without collapsing into either rescue or detachment.

Sean is an ordained Clergy (UCC, ABCUSA) and Board officer (Mental Health Network UCC and The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy). He has previously worked in collaborations with experts in the field (Robert Waldinger, Ron Siegel, Jud Brewer and others), including developing CE tools and training frameworks. Previous experience includes designing contemplative retreats, leading peer consultation groups, and mentoring clinicians navigating the integration of personal practice into professional work.
